Requirements
•Bullet: One song, 60–90 seconds or 32 bars (not including the piano introduction), memorized
•Bullet: From Musical Theatre or Pop/Contemporary repertoire
•Bullet: Must be prepared and performed in English
•Bullet: You may be asked if you have additional material prepared — preparing an additional song is encouraged
Preparation
•Bullet: On-campus auditions (NY & LA): an accompanist and piano are provided — bring sheet music for the accompanist
◦Sub-bullet: Mark your sheet music with the words "start" and "stop" where your song begins and ends
◦Sub-bullet: Sheet music must be in the same key you rehearsed
◦Sub-bullet: Use a 3-ring binder or tape the pages together
◦Sub-bullet: Use full sheet music with three staves (melody line with lyrics and a piano part) — no lead sheets or incomplete internet transcriptions
◦Sub-bullet: Be prepared to communicate cuts and tempo to the accompanist
•Bullet: All other auditions, including national and international: bring your music on a personal device that can connect to speakers via Bluetooth or audio cable
Material Selection
•Bullet: Songs that show the most secure parts of your vocal range
•Bullet: Songs that show your acting ability
•Bullet: Songs with lyrics you understand and feel a personal connection to
What to Avoid
•Bullet: Long narrative songs
•Bullet: "Signature" songs of star performers
•Bullet: Songs with difficult piano accompaniments or songs that put the focus on the accompanist
