Audition Requirements

Repertoire

Winds and brass, strings, piano, and voice: two contrasting works

Percussion: one snare-drum piece and one two-mallet piece

Admission Pathway

An audition on the major instrument is required for all students seeking a music degree

New students may take music classes in the fall and audition the following semester for formal admission

121-credit minimum for the BA in Music

A minor outside of music or integrated arts is required for the BA.

Program Requirements

Piano Proficiency requirement (by exam or the Functional Piano series)

Four semesters of Recital Attendance required

Voice majors also complete Singer's Diction coursework

Placement

Admitted students complete music theory and ear-training coursework; placement is determined in consultation with the music faculty — for course placement, not admission

Complete the UAF admission application and the online Music Department admission form

Fall 2026 undergraduate auditions were held Friday, February 20, 2026

For a digital audition, email YouTube or Vimeo links to uaf-music@alaska.edu; video-file attachments are not accepted

Recording Specs

Announce your full name and the title and composer before each selection

Record each selection continuously and without editing

Music Scholarships

Available to admitted music majors only

Audition and admission as a music major required for scholarship consideration

To be considered for the upcoming year, new students must audition in February and be admitted as a music major
